Corrie van Leeuwen
Born in 1956 in Delft, Corrie van Leeuwen is a Dutch textile artist whose quilted works are intimate reflections of a life steeped in creativity, family, and emotional depth. With a background in handicrafts education and a lifelong dedication to nurturing both her children and artistic practice, Corrie has developed a distinctive approach to quilting that blends technical mastery with personal storytelling.
Initially trained in sewing, Corrie expanded into patchwork under the guidance of Dutch quilting masters. Over the decades, she has explored diverse crafts—from Tiffany glass to pottery and painting—but quilting remains her most powerful means of expression. Her art often begins with a photograph or painting, which she transforms into fabric compositions through patchwork, appliqué, and hand embroidery.
Corrie’s work has been featured in national exhibitions of the Dutch Quilters’ Guild and in solo shows across Delft. Her quilts frequently draw on memories from travel and family life, particularly the rich emotional connections she shares with her children and eight grandchildren. Each piece resonates with warmth, care, and a sense of continuity—threads of love stitched into textile.
For Corrie, quilting is more than a craft; it is a way to preserve, honor, and pass on lived experience. Her creations are quiet yet powerful gestures of affection—tactile portraits of the life she holds dear.
