Cheung Ching
Born in Shenzhen, China
M.A. in Modern Art and Theory
Cheung Ching’s artistic practice began with the study of painting, yet she has never confined herself to a single medium. Over the years, she has continuously explored across different materials and forms—from the restraint and purity of monochromatic painting, to the tactile and structural qualities of clay, and to the fluid and spiritual dimensions of contemporary ink. Each exploration represents a rethinking of what painting can be, and marks her ongoing search for a personal artistic language.
In recent years, Cheung has turned to the techniques and materials of classical oil painting as a foundation for her contemporary expression. Through layers of pigment and the interplay of light and texture, she investigates how traditional methods can resonate with the sensibility of the present. To her, painting is a complex and multidimensional process: it is at once a conscious mastery of materials and an unconscious balancing of emotion, intuition, and chance. Art, in her understanding, is not born from a singular will, but from the continuous dialogue between the body, material, and spirit.
Cheung believes that true creation lies not in arrival, but in constant passage through the unknown. She seeks transformation within persistence, and finds inspiration in the intersections between self and world. The thought that there remain countless unexplored realms fills her with a quiet yet powerful excitement—as though many encounters and revelations await her ahead. For her, this endless sense of discovery is precisely what makes painting so enchanting, and so profoundly alive.
